Coimbra Group

coimbra The Coimbra Group was founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European multidisciplinary universities of high international standard. The Coimbra Group is committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalisation, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society. It is also the purpose of the Group to influence European educational policy and to develop best practice through mutual exchange of experience.

Grupo La Rábida

grupo la rabida El Grupo de Universidades Iberoamericanas La Rábida tiene como objetivo prioritario contribuir, manteniendo los criterios de alta calidad académica, a la formación de docentes universitarios, científicos y profesionales en el nivel de postgrado y doctorado, atendiendo a las necesidades de desarrollo de cada país y sin abandonar los intereses de toda la Comunidad Iberoamericana de Naciones.

The European University Association (EUA)

eua The European University Association (EUA) represents and supports higher education institutions in Europe, providing them with a unique forum to cooperate and keep abreast of the latest trends in higher education and research policies. Members of the Association are European universities involved in teaching and research, national associations of rectors and other organisations active in higher education and research. Due to its unique knowledge of the sector and the great diversity of its member institutions, EUA plays an essential role in shaping tomorrow’s European higher education and research landscape.

The Association of Arab and European Universities (AEUA)

The Association of Arab and European Universities (AEUA) was initiated in 1998 by the Lutfia Rabbani Foundation in The Netherlands. Its prime objective is to facilitate and to stimulate collaboration between universities in European and Arab countries at an institutional, departmental and faculty level. Ultimate goal is to develop human resources and promote understanding between cultures and exchanges between the civil societies involved.

It was initially established to respond to the growing need for an effective vehicle to provide Arab and European universities with improved access to the MEDA II Programme (now ENPI, European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument). AEUA was formally incorporated under Dutch law in 2000 with a very strong backing of the Association of Arab Universities based in Jordan and the European University Association based in Brussels, who are both represented on the AEUA Board.

IAU

aiu IAU, founded in 1950, is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions under the auspices of the UNESCO. It brings together institutions and organisations from some 150 countries for reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education.

EAIE

eaie The EAIE is a non-profit organisation whose main aim is the stimulation and facilitation of the internationalisation of higher education in Europe and around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in international education. The EAIE is a member-led organisation made up of individual members. It has a committed membership of more than 1800 international education professionals - from rectors to professors to international exchange coordinators.

The Latin American University Association of Postgraduate Studies (AUIP)

auip The Latin American University Association of Postgraduate Studies (AUIP) is an international non governmental organization recognised by the UNECO, dedicated to the promotion of postgraduate and doctoral studies in Latin America. Its membership comprises more than one hundred prestigious higher education institutions from Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides a common catalogue of thousands of postgraduate programmes covering practically all fields of knowledge.

The AUIP provides information and dissemination services for all the postgraduate programmes offered, collaborates in processes of internal and external evaluation, accreditation and curricular harmonization of all these programmes. It also encourages the mobility and exchange of teaching staff and students, it incentivises the academic and research work through networks of centres of excellence in numerous areas of knowledge, sponsors academic and scientific events that are clearly related to advanced training and organises international travelling courses in subjects of interest to professors and directors of postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

MARISTAN

maristan MARISTAN is an International cooperation network between Departments of Psychiatry of Latin American and EU Universities. The aim of MARISTAN is to promote cooperation, support professionals both ethically and technically, create leaders capable of teaching and researching all activities inherent to the changes involved in every psychiatric reform process and the development of community mental health.

LEIBNIZ EN ESPAÑOL

Logo Red The “Iberoamerican Research Network Leibniz in Spanish”, sponsored by the AUIP, is a proposal created in connection with the Publishing Project “Philoshphical and Scientific work” by G. W. Leibniz (in consultation with the “Leibniz-Archiv” of Hannover) and promoted by the Spanish Liebniz Society.

Its aim is to coordinate and publicise the work on Leibniz by the Spanish-speaking community by organizing activities, projects, meetings, congresses and exchanges between its members, which reinforces its international projection. The network is open to researchers interested en Liebniz´s work residing in different countries within the scope of Iberoamerican culture.

Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED)

unimed UNIMED, the Mediterranean Universities Union, founded in October 1991, is an association of Universities from the countries bordering the Mediterranean basin. The network structure, based on the mobility and exchange of human and cultural resources, has the aim of promoting interuniversity research and education in a multidisciplinary perspective in the area of enhancement and conservation of cultural heritage, health, and economy as well as new technology, thereby contributing to the integration process between the two shores of the Mediterranean. This institution can be depicted by the image of a University “without walls”: a University network providing the civil society with a large know-how and the best specialists of the area.

Tordesillas Group

tordesillas Tordesillas Group was constituted by Charter in 2000 during the 1st Rectors’ Summit of Brazilian, Spanish and Portuguese Universities. The Summit took place in the famous House of the Tordesillas Treaty where the historic treaty was signed in 1494. The meeting was organised in order to celebrate the 5th centenary of the discovery of Brazil and this occasion was an opportunity to promote the collaboration between the Universities of these three countries in Science and Technology. Currently there are three networks, one in each country, at the Universidad Federal del Estado de Río de Janeiro (UNIRIO) in Brazil, at the Universidad de Valladolid (UVA) in Spain and at the Universidad de Coimbra (UC) in Portugal. The main objective of the Group is to establish permanent academic, cultural and socio-economic links between its members.

Community of Mediterranean University (CUM)

cmu The Community of Mediterranean University (CMU) was set up in 1983, to generate a process of renewal and modernisation which would help its adhering members to overcome many serious problems. CUM wishes to promote scientific and cultural collaboration between its members by activating each ones competences and resources while at the same time respecting the diversity and specificity of the different countries and nationalities.

European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC)

EAEC

The European Association of ERASMUS Coordinators (EAEC), is a membership network, which currently has more than 80 members. It was founded in 2004 in Lodz, Poland, with an official kick off during the ERACON 2005 (ERASMUS Coordinators Conference and GO-Exchange Education Fair 2005) in Cyprus.

The aims of the Network are to:

  • enable an information and experience exchange among the European LLP-Erasmus Programme Coordinators
  • promote mobility of students and academic and administrative staff in the territory of the European Union
  • circulate provisions on the Bologna Process and its update in academic circles,
  • promote principles and participation in the ERASMUS+ European Commission Programme
  • support the process of raising education standards and quality in the territory of the European Union
  • organise seminars and conferences, with an assumption of enabling direct communication among the Association’s members and be a catalyst for increased mobility throughout Europe, as well as defining new areas of the Association’s activity,
  • prepare project proposals to be funded by the European Commission,
  • cooperate as a partner in European projects,
  • run surveys and studies on topics relating to the above
  • produce publication of interest to the members.

European Language Council(CEL/ELC)

cle European Language Council (CEL/ELC) is a permanent and independent association launched in July 1997 by a group of leading European universities, whose main aim is the quantitative and qualitative improvement of knowledge of the languages and cultures of the European Union and beyond.

Europe continues to undergo rapid and profound changes resulting from increasing integration, EU expansion and globalization. As a result of these developments, there is now an unprecedented need for effective communication across linguistic boundaries, which requires new policies and decisive action.

EMUNI University

emuni The EMUNI University is an international association of universities with headquarters in Slovenia. It represents one of the six projects of the Union of the Mediterranean, approved in the frame of a common declaration, adopted in Paris on 13 July 2009. Within the mission of the EMUNI University, the following goals shall be achieved:

  • Raising quality of higher education through the implementation of study and research programmes;
  • Becoming an international university, which will acknowledge cultural diversity;
  • Establishing university environment, which will have a stimulating effect on integration of different nations and cultures in the academic spheres;
  • Ensuring administrative, operational and material infrastructure, which will enable the operation of the university.

The goal of the EMUNI University is to create specialised study programmes among the Euro-Mediterranean universities. The study programmes will cover themes and areas, which are significant for the Euro-Mediterranean Area. The study programmes or parts of them will be implemented at the EMUNI University as well as other universities, co-founders of the EMUNI University.

One of the main activities of the EMUNI University is also research, which is one of the important factors of development, success and quality of the University.

The basic mission of the University is to contribute with its activities to strengthening intercultural dialogue and to the priority goals of the Barcelona process, which is in the broader sense included also in the Union for the Mediterranean.

NAFSA encourages networking among professionals, convenes conferences and collaborative dialogues, and promotes research and knowledge creation to strengthen and serve the field. Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA)

aiea The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), a membership organization formed in November 1982, is composed of institutional leaders engaged in advancing the international dimensions of higher education. AIEA is hosted at the Duke University Center for International Studies (DUCIS). The purposes of the Association are to:

  • Provide an effective voice on significant issues within international education at all levels,
  • Improve and promote international education programming and administration within institutions of higher education,
  • Establish and maintain a professional network among international education institutional leaders,
  • Cooperate in appropriate ways with other national and international groups having similar interests.

AIEA gives members opportunities to join forces, exchange ideas, share institutional strategies, and provide an effective voice on matters of public policy.

Magna Charta Universitatum Observatory

Logotipo_Observatory The Magna Charta Observatory of Fundamental University Values and Rights is a non-profit organisation based in Bologna, founded by the University of Bologna and the European University Association (EUA).

The Magna Charta Observatory aims to gather information, express opinions and prepare documents relating to the respect for, and protection of, the fundamental university values and rights laid down in the Magna Charta Universitatum signed in Bologna in 1988 by 388 Rectors of worldwide main universities.

The Observatory may work together or in agreement with other national, European or international organisations pursuing similar or compatible aims
