EADTU 25th anniversary Conference

The EADTU Annual Conference 2012, hosted by the Open University of Cyprus is taking place from 27-28 September 2012 in Paphos, Cyprus.

EADTU herewith presents the full 25th Anniversary Conference Programme 2012 to be held under the EU-presidency of Cyprus.

European Commission is represented by Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, Ms. Androulla Vassiliou.

The Commissioner as well as the other prominent keynotes will address the challenges captured under the main conference title: The role of open and flexible education in European higher education systems for 2020: new models, new markets, new media.

OPEN AND FLEXIBLE EDUCATION

Open Education nowadays refers to open access(ibility); freedom of time, pace and place; open programming; open to people; free online availability and open licencing. Enabled by (new) technologies more and more open educational resources are becoming available and massive open and online education is becoming an emerging business (e.g., MOOCs). Also economic developments contributes to the increasing the importance of Open and flexible education. Significant investments in Open Education are made by increasing number of governments. Recently the European Union announced their upcoming investment in Open Education and started a public consultation called `Opening up Education'.

SESSIONS AND WORKSHOPS

A special session including the panel presentation with UNESCO chairs on OER and the contribution of Commissioner Ms. Androulla Vassiliou will address these issues. Many keynotes will address this increasing interest in open and flexible education. In a series of parallel sessions and workshops we will address the following themes in open education: Open Media, New markets, Networked Curricula: University Curricula and Academic Networks, Virtual mobility, Open Educational Resources, University strategies and business models University-business cooperation, knowledge circulation, entrepreneurship, virtual interfaces Quality Assurance in e-Learning
