Basic information about the insurance for the academic year 2021/2022 and 2022/23

According to the UGR International Mobility Regulations, Incoming students are obliged to have health and travel insurance for the duration of their study period (art. 29).

Following recommendations made by the Ombudsman of Andalusia and the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE), the University of Granada requires that all students on international mobility programmes (Erasmus, UGR International Mobility Programme, etc) provide proof that they have purchased travel insurance. You must also provide proof that you have health insurance (for mobility periods within the EU and associated non-EU countries please check the health cover provided by the European Health Insurance Card). The compulsory travel insurance must minimally include the following cover:

  • Health and travel insurance
  • Medical transportation or repatriation
  • Transportation or repatriation of a deceased policyholder
  • Travel costs of a family member to accompany a policyholder in the event that they become ill
  • A family member’s stay abroad if they need to accompany the policyholder
  • Disruptions to a trip due to the death of a family member
  • Civil liability

University of Granada has signed an agreement with ERGO insurance company and any incoming and outgoing UGR students can purchase it, as well as international students officially enrolled at UGR.

  • Purchase prices according to different profiles:
    • Foreign students in Spain: €147.38
    • Spanish students in Europe: €45.35 (see note 1)
    • Spanish students in the World: €130.05
    • Foreign students in Spain Sports Sciences: €170.06 (see note 2)
    • Spanish students in Europe Sports Sciences: €68.02 (see note 2)
    • Spanish students in the World Sports Sciences: €152.72 (see note 2)

Note 1: European countries: All of the countries that make up political Europe shall be considered as part of the European area; including all countries of the European Union and Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vatican City, Georgia, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, United Kingdom, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine.

Note 2: This condition shall be applied to insurance taken out on behalf of students of the following degree programmes: Grado (Bachelor's Degree) in Sport and Exercise Sciences, Grado (Bachelor's Degree) in Primary School Education + Grado (Bachelor's Degree) in Sport and Exercise Sciences (Melilla), Grado (Bachelor's Degree) in Sport and Exercise Sciences (Melilla).

Students on degrees at the Faculty of Education who will take the corresponding courses of the specialisation in Physical Education during their mobility period must communicate the inclusion of courses related to sports practice in their learning agreement through the e-Administration procedure “Entrega de documentación firmada” before 10 September, so that the insurance conditions and premium can be adapted to this situation.

How to make an insurance claim

Basic instructions concerning the policy and the relevant phone numbers can be found on the insurance certificate you receive upon purchasing the policy.
