The University of Granada (UGR) is currently participating in a European project aimed at providing biosecurity training to prepare microbiology laboratory professionals for disasters. The project is called Micro Lab Secure (Developing a Biosecurity Training Program for Preparedness for Future Disasters and Increasing the Vocational Skills of Microbiology Laboratory Health Professionals).
The goal of the project is to identify and manage biosecurity risks in laboratories before, during and after disasters, whether they are natural (e.g. floods, fires, earthquakes), deliberate (e.g. bioterrorism), or unintentional (e.g. spills, leaks, workplace accidents or illnesses).
