The University of Granada has a long and fruitful history of international experience. For years, we have been at the forefront of Europe in terms of student, teacher and administrative and support staff mobility, and in recognition of our continued work in this area, the University of Granada was awarded the Erasmus Gold Star Award. We offer the university community a wide range of international mobility programmes on five continents and receive students, teachers and staff from all of them. We currently offer more than fifty international double, multiple and joint degrees and have initiated teaching experiences in English to enrich the academic offer for local and international students alike. About 27% of the students enrolled on our postgraduate programmes come from other countries.

The University of Granada has an extensive network of bilateral and multilateral alliances, with more than 800 active international cooperation agreements. We manage major international university networks such as the Coimbra Group, the Iberoamerican University Association for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP) and the Tordesillas Group, and enjoy a high level of success and participation in international academic cooperation projects. The UGR is a leader among Spanish universities in providing official development aid and carries out important activities for training and institutional strengthening of partner universities in regions with a low Human Development Index.

In addition, we offer reception and assistance services for visiting researchers through our International Welcome Centre and offer Spanish language and culture courses, both through our internationally renowned Modern Languages Centre (CLM) and at the dozen centres we manage abroad. Together with Peking University, the UGR also co-manages the Confucius Institute in Granada, whose main objective is to promote the study of Chinese language and culture. The Institute is recognised as a centre of excellence by the Chinese Government’s Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (Hanban) and is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its creation this year. The University of Granada is also home to the only Centre for Slavic Cultures, a non-profit institution that was created in 2015.

For the University of Granada, the internationalization of higher education is not an end in itself. Rather, it is a means to effectively achieve the objective of training our students to work in a globalised environment, at both local and international level, and of educating them as critical, ethical and responsible social actors. The internationalization of research focuses on excellence in results and aims to multiply the social impact of our activities. These two processes converge to increase the visibility and prestige of the institution and to promote our essential values. Finally, the international activity of the UGR seeks to contribute to the development and strengthening of university systems in developing countries through cooperative actions with our partners.
